South Korean prosecutors raid Hana Bank HQ over alleged hiring irregularities

KEB Hana Bank's headquarters in Seoul was raided by South Korean prosecutors on Feb. 8 as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in hiring practices at the country's major banks, Yonhap News Agency reported the same day.

KEB Hana Bank, a unit of Hana Financial Group Inc., is suspected of giving undue favors to job applicants with ties to its top executives. The bank also allegedly kept a list of applicants who were given preferential treatment in the hiring process, according to the report.

Prosecutors searched for evidence in the offices of KEB Hana bank CEO Ham Young-joo and head of the bank's human resources division.

KEB Hana Bank is one of the several banks facing the probe into alleged irregularities in hiring practices. The probe was requested by South Korea's Financial Supervisory Service after its own investigation in late 2017 found there were 22 suspected cases of irregular hiring in top banks.

The report came after prosecutors recently indicted a former head of Woori Bank and other officials for alleged irregularities related to hiring new staff between 2015 and 2017.
