ND oil, gas production holds steady in March

North Dakota gas and oil production remained essentially flat in March, while 2,148 wells were idle.

Gas wells in the state produced 65.6 Bcf in the month, or 2.12 Bcf/d, according to preliminary figures released by the Industrial Commission. That was up from February's adjusted total of 59.0 Bcf, or 2.11 Bcf/d.

On a preliminary basis, oil production was 36.0 million barrels, or 1.20 MMbbl/d. For February, the state recorded adjusted oil production of 32.9 MMbbl, or 1.20 MMbbl/d.

The state's leading gas-producing county in March was McKenzie, with 33.0 Bcf. Williams County was next, at 12.0 Bcf. McKenzie was also the top oil producer in March, with 14.1 MMbbl produced. The second-leading oil county was Mountrail, with 7.0 MMbbl.

Of the 16,605 wells capable of production, 14,457 were in use in March.
