Facebook Inc. will allow users to review businesses that advertise on the site and will potentially ban those that receive the most negative feedback.
The tool, which launched June 12, is aimed at cracking down on businesses whose ads mislead users into buying unsatisfactory products or who fail to deliver products by their stated shipping time.
Users can leave feedback on their ad-viewing experiences under Facebook's "Ads Activity" tab, the company said in a blog post.
Businesses that receive high levels of negative feedback will be given the chance to improve before further action is taken. Ramifications could include reducing the amount of ads that particular businesses can run or banning the advertiser if it does not implement the suggested changes.
"We believe this tool will give people more confidence in the businesses they interact with and help hold businesses accountable for customer experiences they provide," Facebook said.
This platform update is among a handful of those Facebook has introduced since its recent involvement with the now-defunct Cambridge Analytica LLC and other third-party app developers that obtained and misused millions of users' data.
