European Commission approves 2 separate acquisitions of renewable assets

In separate decisions announced Sept. 25, the European Commission approved acquisitions of renewable energy assets.

Under one transaction, Luxembourg-headquartered Sage Holdings SARL will acquire the German offshore wind firms Ocean Breeze Energy GmbH & Co. KG and Perikles Vermögensverwaltung GmbH, which operates the 400-MW Bard Offshore 1 wind facility.

Sage is indirectly controlled by the Australian asset manager Macquarie Group Ltd.

Separately, the commission also authorized a consortium of buyers to acquire the Dublin Waste-To-Energy facility, in Dublin, Ireland, which produces 60 MW by processing 1,800 tonnes of solid waste per day.

The thermal treatment plant is operated by Dublin Waste to Energy Ltd.

The consortium consists of Germay's Munich Re, the Netherlands' DIF Management Holding BV, Macquarie Group's Green Investment Group Ltd. and U.S.-based Covanta Holding Corp. Covanta was the Dublin plant's original developer and Green Investment Group acquired a 50% interest in 2017 when the two companies formed a joint venture to pursue waste-to-energy projects.
