All 'advanced approaches' banks improved CET1 ratios versus last quarter

Although six of the 10 "advanced approaches" banks reported a year-over-year decrease in common equity Tier 1 ratios, all showed improvements from the previous quarter.

As of June 30, the median CET1 ratio at these banks was 11.74%, up from 11.57% in the previous quarter and down from 12.08% a year-ago.

State Street Corp. reported the highest increase of 53 basis points during the quarter to 11.35%, while Morgan Stanley remains on top with the highest CET1 ratio of 15.84% as of June 30.

Citigroup Inc. reported the highest year-over-year decline in CET1 ratio of 193 basis points to 12.14%. Bank of New York Mellon Corp. reported the highest improvement of 17 basis points from a year ago to 10.97% as of June 30.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Bank of New York Mellon Corp. were the only two banks reporting a lower CET1 ratio under the advanced approaches framework compared to standardized approach framework.
