Italy's harmonized annual inflation eased to 0.3% in September from 0.5% in August, preliminary data from the country's National Institute of Statistics showed.
On an annual basis, energy prices declined 2.9% while prices of food, alcohol and tobacco increased 1.1%. Prices in the services segment rose 0.9%.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices climbed 1.5%.
Core annual inflation, which excludes energy and unprocessed food, was unchanged in September from August, at 0.6%.
In nonharmonized terms, consumer prices grew 0.4% year over year and declined 0.5% month over month. The Econoday consensus estimate was for 0.6% annual growth and a 0.2% monthly fall in the index.
