AT&T Inc. promoted John Stankey to the newly created position of president and COO of the company, effective Oct. 1.
Stankey, who will report to AT&T Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson, also will continue as CEO of WarnerMedia.
In addition, AT&T named Jeff McElfresh CEO of AT&T Communications LLC, succeeding John Donovan, who earlier announced his retirement, effective Oct. 1. Reporting to Stankey in his expanded role will be McElfresh, his current WarnerMedia executive team and Xandr CEO Brian Lesser.
“It’s the natural next step in bringing together the distinct and complimentary capabilities of AT&T Communications, WarnerMedia and Xandr to deliver for consumers the benefits of a modern media company," Stephenson said in a Sept. 3 statement.
Stankey joined AT&T in 1985 and has served in a variety of leadership roles, including: corporate strategy and M&A; media and entertainment; operations, IT and technology; consumer mobility, broadband and TV; and enterprise business.
McElfresh, who has nearly 25 years of experience with AT&T, previously was president of AT&T Communications' technology and operations group.
