Hindalco's Novelis to invest US$175M toward Brazil aluminum plant expansion

Hindalco Industries Ltd. unit Novelis Inc. said Nov. 13 that it will invest US$175 million to expand its aluminum production and recycling capacity at its flagship Pindamonhangaba plant in Brazil's Paraíba Valley.

The expansion will result in the addition of 100,000 tonnes of rolling production and 60,000 tonnes of recycling capacity, bringing its total yearly capacity to about 680,000 tonnes of aluminum sheet and 450,000 tonnes of recycled metal.

In addition, the investment includes a new water sourcing system and the acquisition of about 90 acres of land for future expansion.

Construction for the expansion of the Pindamonhangaba plant will start in Feburary 2019 and is expected to be completed in 2021.
