Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. said July 3 that same-store net sales of its Uniqlo apparel chain in Japan slid 4% year over year in June as the company continued to experience a sales drop that began in May.
The Japanese clothing retailer attributed the decline in sales to a frequent cool weather, reducing demand for Uniqlo's summer items.
Sales for Uniqlo Japan's directly run stores, excluding online sales, also fell 4.7% year over year. Meanwhile, total sales, including online sales, decreased 3.6% year over year.
On a same-store basis, customer numbers also were down 7.5% during the month, while average purchase per customer grew 3.8%.
The company closed one store in June.
