Report: China cracks down on unauthorized online news

TheCyberspace Administration of China finedseveral websites that publish "self-edited" news, as per state rulesprohibiting original online reporting, Reuters reported July 25, citing Chinesestate media.

Theinternet watchdog also reportedly told companies such as , Inc., NetEaseInc. and Phoenix New Media Ltd.'s iFeng to fix their websites in line with theinternet publication regulations.

However,several web pages, as well as mobile clients and public WeChat accounts onSina, Sohu, NetEase and iFeng, had been taken down, according to a Beijing Times report cited by Reuters.

The CACpreviously vowed a crackdown on news gathered from social media platforms.
