Judicial body requests details on Walmart, Flipkart's business in India

An Indian judicial authority has asked Walmart Inc. and Flipkart Online Services Pvt. Ltd. units to provide details on their business in the country now that their deal has closed, Live Mint reported Sept. 7.

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, the appellate authority for the Competition Commission of India, seeks to find out how Walmart International Holdings Inc. and Flipkart Private Ltd. operate in India before looking into the merit of a trade group's challenge to the Competition Commission of India's approval of Walmart's $16 billion acquisiton of Flipkart.

NCLAT set a deadline of Sept. 20 for Walmart's response. The Confederation of All India Traders, which filed an appeal disputing the competition authority's approval, has also been called to submit its understanding of Walmart's business in India.
