Arizona Public Service seeks 400 MW of wind, solar capacity

Arizona Public Service Co. issued two requests for proposals seeking 400 MW of solar and wind projects.

In the first request, the Pinnacle West Capital Corp. subsidiary is asking for up to 150 MW of solar capacity that can be up and running by Dec. 31, 2021. This capacity is to be owned by APS. Proposals should offer to use commercially proven technologies and must have the capability to add energy storage systems if required.

The second request seeks 250 MW of wind generation that can be in service as soon as possible, APS said in a Sept. 12 news release, and no later than 2022. The company will consider both APS-owned resources as well as those owned by third parties that would sell the output to APS under a power purchase agreement.

Commercial customers can partner with APS to reach their own clean energy and sustainability goals, the utility said.

Interested parties can register for the wind request for proposals until Oct. 11 and the solar request for proposals until Oct. 16. Selected wind projects will be announced by March 5, 2020, and selected solar projects will be announced by March 31, 2020. In both cases, APS said, the request process will be overseen and reviewed by a third-party independent monitor.
