U.S. ride-hailing giant Uber Technologies Inc. said March 20 that it will expand its freight service app to Europe.
Uber Freight, launched in the U.S. in 2017, connects trucking companies with shippers while giving drivers up-front pricing and the ability to book a load through its dedicated app.
The European rollout will start in the Netherlands in the coming weeks, Uber said.
The company expects to capitalize in the $400 billion European truckload market, the third-largest in the world after China and the U.S., according to the release.
The Uber Freight expansion comes about five months after Uber launched Powerloop, its trailer rental business affiliated with Uber Freight. Powerloop allows eligible Uber Freight carriers to rent trailers.
