JD.com Inc. teamed up with Australian meat producer InterAgri Group Pty. Ltd. to offer black Angus beef products to Chinese consumers, according to a March 2 announcement.
The companies will also jointly develop a blockchain traceability system, to be launched this spring, to provide transparency on the whole production process. Through it, consumers can access information related to the beef products, including where and how the animal was raised, and how the meat was processed and transported.
The Chinese online retailer said the partnership comes at a time when Chinese demand for premium-quality imported beef is increasing.
