Kraft Heinz Co. is withdrawing from the cheese market in India, The Economic Times (India) reported May 16, citing trade sources.
The sources reportedly said Kraft-branded cheese products are no longer in stock in Indian stores because the food and beverage giant is looking to exit the cheese market in the country.
According to the report, the company has not laid out official plans to its distributors but has paused cheese production in the country.
Kraft's move comes after French foods giant Danone in January discontinued the production of fresh dairy products in India.
The news agency noted that local companies hold a large fraction of India's branded cheese market share, with Amul holding about 71%, Britannia Industries Ltd. holding about 17% and Parag Milk Foods Ltd. holding about 6%.
