Canada's unemployment rate held steady at 5.8% for the fourth straight month in May, while employment was little changed month over month at 18.6 million, Statistics Canada said.
Employment rose in accommodation and food services, professional, scientific and technical services, transportation and warehousing, and finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing. On the other hand, job declines were reported in healthcare and social assistance, manufacturing, construction, and "other services."
By province, Prince Edward Island reported job gains, while British Columbia and Nova Scotia posted declines.
On an annual basis, employment grew 1.3% or 238,000 due to gains in full-time work.
