H&M to hire 800 more employees in India

H&M Hennes & Mauritz AB is looking to employ 800 more workers in India in a bid to expand its retail footprint in the country, Press Trust of India reported March 19.

H&M India Country Manager Janne Einola told the news wire about the move, adding that the new workers would be assigned to some of the new stores that the Swedish clothing retailer plans to open in the country. The company already runs 29 stores and has about 3,500 employees in India.

The retailer is looking to bring in more H&M-owned brands, such as Cheap Monday and Arket, in the country, but Einola told the news wire that it would not be able to do so until the government eases local sourcing terms for global retailers.

H&M recently launched its online store in the country.
