Heineken España SA signed a long-term power purchase agreement for the output of Iberdrola SA's planned 50-MW Andévalo photovoltaic plant in Spain.
The solar project hosts 147,000 polycrystalline silicon modules across 150 hectares in the municipality of Puebla de Guzmán. The power plant will be capable of generating 82 GWh of electricity per year.
Once it begins operations in 2020, the solar project's output will supply the Heineken NV subsidiary's four breweries and offices in Spain.
Iberdrola added that the solar facility will be built inside its existing 292-MW El Andévalo wind farm.
Iberdrola España S.A.U.The contract will help Heineken España get closer to its aim of using renewable energy for all its production by 2023, according to a Sept. 23 news release from both companies.
The project is a significant advance in Iberdrola's investment in renewables in Spain, where it plans to install 3,000 MW by 2022 and 10,000 MW by 2030.
The Netherlands-based brewer Heineken is a subsidiary of L'Arche Green NV.
