Report: Amazon India hit with technical glitch exposing merchant data Inc.'s Indian arm experienced a technical glitch Jan. 6 that allowed some sellers to access tax reports of other merchants on the online retailer's platform, The Economic Times (India) reported Jan. 9, citing an Amazon spokesperson.

"On Sunday, some sellers who attempted to download Merchant Tax Reports for the month of December 2018 experienced a technical issue," the spokesperson reportedly confirmed, adding that the company has resolved the issue and sellers are now able to access the correct reports.

The incident reportedly impacted a small number of Amazon India's 400,000 sellers. An Amazon India source told the newspaper that only about 0.2% of the company's seller base was exposed by the data breach.

Affected merchants reportedly said they were able to download tax reports of different vendors up until the late hours of Jan. 7.

The news comes as the Seattle-based e-commerce giant launched a crackdown on employees who allegedly leak internal data to marketplace sellers in exchange for bribes.

Last month, The Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon fired several employees in connection to the investigation.
