Energy Capital shuffles Calpine's exec team; NRG Energy reduces board size

S&P Global Market Intelligence presents a weekly rundown of recent executive management, board and regulatory changes in the energy industry. The moves are listed by sector in reverse chronological order.

Power

* Energy Capital Partners LLC on March 8 appointed Thad Miller, Tyler Reeder, Douglas Kimmelman, Andrew Singer and Andrew Gilbert as voting directors of Calpine Corp., following the acquisition of Calpine by a consortium led by Energy Capital Partners. Access Industries, one of the investors in the acquisition, appointed Donald Wagner to the board of Calpine. Andrew Novotny and Caleb Stephenson have been promoted to executive vice presidents to serve as co-heads of commercial operations, Calpine's wholesale trading and origination businesses. Bryan Kimzey has also been promoted to senior vice president of finance and treasurer. Jim Wood was named president of Calpine Retail Holdings LLC.

* South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster appointed former state Attorney General Charlie Condon as the next chairman of Santee Cooper, known legally as South Carolina Public Service Authority. Condon will fill the position left vacant by Leighton Lord in December 2017.

* NRG Energy Inc. on March 7 announced that Walt Young, Evan Silverstein and Barry Smitherman retired from the board. The company also concurrently appointed Matthew Carter and Heather Cox as independent directors. With the chages, NRG Energy effectively reduced its board's size to 12 directors.

* Transatlantic Power Holdings and Ardian on March 5 named Martin Mugica as the CEO of their newly formed independent renewable power platform joint venture, Skyline Renewables. Lorenzo Roccia will be serving alongside Mugica as chairman of the new entity.

* The Salt River Project on March 5 announced that Mike Hummel will replace Mark Bonsall as general manager and CEO of the Arizona electric and water utility, effective in May. Bonsall will retire after serving the company since 1977. Hummel is currently the deputy general manager of resources and finance.

* Ameren Corp. appointed Bhavani Amirthalingam to the newly created role of chief digital information officer and also named her as senior vice president. Amirthalingam held positions at Schneider Electric and World Wide Technology Inc. prior to her appointment.

Midstream/gas utility

* Sunoco GP LLC on March 6 appointed Imad Anbouba and Oscar Alvarez to its board, both joining as independent directors. Anbouba will serve as chairman of the board's audit committee and as a member of the compensation committee. Alvarez was appointed to serve on the audit committee.

* Marathon Oil Corp. appointed Douglas Foshee and M. Elise Hyland to its board, effective April 1. Foshee is the founder and owner of Sallyport Investments LLC and previously served as chairman, president and CEO of El Paso Corp. until its merger with Kinder Morgan Inc. Hyland most recently served as senior vice president of EQT Corp. and senior vice president and COO of EQT Midstream Services LLC until her retirement in 2018.

* Moelis & Co. appointed Tellurian Inc. co-founder Martin Houston as an advisory partner and chairman of the company's global energy group. He will serve oil and gas clients globally.

* Apache Corp. named David Pursell as the company's senior vice president, planning and energy fundamentals, effective March 12. He has previously served as managing director of Tudor Pickering Holt & Co. LLC's investment banking team.

* UGI Corp. appointed former Spectra Energy Corp. executive Alan Harris to its board of directors, effective March 5. Harris retired from Spectra Energy in January 2015, where he served in various roles, including senior adviser to the chairman, president and CEO on project execution efforts, chief development and operations officer, and chief development officer.

* Southcross Energy Partners GP LLC announced March 4 that Chairman, President and CEO Bruce Williamson is taking medical leave due to a sudden illness. David Biegler was appointed acting chairman, president and CEO, effective immediately.
