Humana fined over network inadequacies in Texas

Humana Inc. has been fined $700,000 in Texas over deficiencies in its network of anesthesiologists in the state.

The Texas Department of Insurance imposed the penalty several months after learning that the managed care giant canceled several of its network contracts for anesthesiology services.

The regulator said in a statement that consumers could not get anesthesiology services at more than 20 hospitals and surgical centers in Harris, Bexar and Travis counties, which are three of the Lone Star State's largest metro areas.

Humana agreed to reprocess bills so consumers do not face higher costs due to network inadequacies.
