Consortium starts building floating wind farm off Portugal

A consortium comprising EDP Renováveis SA, Engie SA, Repsol SA and Principle Power Inc. has started building a floating wind farm off the Portuguese coast of Viana do Castelo.

The 25-MW WindFloat Atlantic project builds on the 2-MW WindFloat1 prototype, which was in operation between 2011 and 2016, according to an Oct. 21 news release.

The project has received financial support from government of Portugal, the European Commission and the European Investment Bank.

EDPR is a subsidiary of EDP - Energias de Portugal SA.
