Xcel Energy seeks FERC approval to acquire Colo. gas-fired plant

Public Service Co. of Colorado is seeking federal approval for its proposed acquisition of the Manchief gas-fired generating station in Morgan County, Colo., with a nameplate capacity of 301 MW.

The Xcel Energy Inc. subsidiary will purchase the facility from Atlantic Power Corp. for $45.2 million, as the parties announced May 28.

Public Service Co. of Colorado buys the output of the plant under a 10-year power purchase agreement set to expire in April 2022.

The deal is set to close in May 2022, subject to certain closing conditions and approvals, including approvals from the Colorado Public Utilities Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

FERC is requested to approve the transaction by Oct. 8, 2019.
