Appeals court upholds ruling in VirnetX case against Apple

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld a $439.8 million ruling in VirnetX Holding Corp.'s patent case against Apple Inc.

The judgment awarded to VirnetX included a jury verdict, willful infringement, interest, costs and attorney fees, according to a Jan. 15 news release.

A federal jury in Texas previously ruled that Apple's FaceTime, VPN on Demand and iMessage features infringed four of VirnetX's patents.

VirnetX, through its subsidiary VirnetX Inc., operates as an internet security software and technology company in the U.S. and internationally.
