Facebook Inc. will invest over US$1 billion to set up its first Asia data center in Singapore, Reuters reported.
The 170,000-square-meter facility is reportedly expected to open in 2022.
Facebook's Vice President of Infrastructure Data Centers Thomas Furlong said the center will not be "country specific to where users are located".
According to the report, the space will support hundreds of jobs and will be in close proximity to Google LLC, which is spending US$850 million to expand its data centers in Singapore.
Facebook has data centers in the U.S., Ireland and Sweden and is also building one in Denmark.
