Aerospace and defense company United Technologies Corp. said it will invest more than $15 billion in the U.S. over the next five years and hire 35,000 people across the nation.
The company said $9 billion of the planned investment will be used for research and development through 2022, including digital strategy initiatives. The remaining $6 billion will go to capital expenditures over the same period to drive innovation across existing manufacturing facilities.
Pratt & Whitney's facility in Georgia will receive $450 million, supporting the purchase of automated machinery and equipment upgrades.
The company said most of the job openings will be the result of normal turnover, but "several thousand positions" will be new roles. Connecticut, Florida and Georgia are expected to have the greatest hiring needs.
