Volt secures environmental approval for Bunyu graphite project in Tanzania

Volt Resources Ltd.'s Volt Graphite Tanzania Ltd. unit received the Environmental Impact Assessment Certificate for its Bunyu graphite project from the National Environment Management Council of Tanzania.

The certificate was the final pre-requisite for the granting of the Bunyu mining license, the company said Sept. 4.

The company lodged the mining license applications with the Minister for Minerals of Tanzania, covering both stage one and two of the Bunyu project in February.

The mining licenses will be granted soon after Volt submits the certificate to the Tanzanian Minerals Commission.

Under the stage-one development, an estimated 400,000 tonnes per year of ore will be processed to produce 20,000 t/y of graphite products, while stage-two expansion will be based on the pre-feasibility study metrics of 3.8 Mt/y of ore feed to produce 170,000 t/y of graphite products.
