E.ON, Nissan partner to explore electric vehicle commercial opportunities

E.ON SE and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. announced March 6 they have entered into a strategic partnership to explore opportunities related to electric vehicles charging.

The companies have already begun cooperating on a pilot project in Denmark. Under the program, a customer receives a charging station for their home and benefits from an energy flat rate to charge their Nissan EV. The companies plan to extend the program into other European markets.

"The partnership between Nissan and E.ON is driven by our desire to set the electric car free," E.ON COO Karsten Wildberger said in a statement.

The partnership also aims to achieve decentralized energy generation and storage solutions through E.ON's experience in solar and storage systems, according to the news release, supporting Nissan's vehicle-to-grid infrastructure and advanced bi-directional charging technology to allow consumers to improve their electricity usage and costs.
