Union Pacific Q3 profit falls YOY

Union Pacific Corp. said its normalized net income for the third quarter was $1.50 per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of $1.43 per share.

EPS declined year over year from $1.53.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $1.29 billion, a decline of 5.9% from $1.38 billion in the year-earlier period.

The normalized profit margin climbed to 23.3% from 22.3% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue fell 10.0% on an annual basis to $5.56 billion from $6.18 billion, and total operating expenses decreased 12.9% year over year to $3.35 billion from $3.85 billion.

Reported net income fell 5.4% on an annual basis to $1.30 billion, or $1.50 per share, from $1.37 billion, or $1.53 per share.
