Italian consumer and business confidence drops in May

Italian consumer and business confidence fell in May 2017, the National Institute for Statistics reported May 26.

The composite consumer confidence index declined to 105.4 from 107.4, with all components worsening, and the composite business confidence climate index slipped to 106.2 from 106.8.

Manufacturing confidence declined to 106.9 from 107.7, as assessments on order books and production expectations declined.

Construction confidence was little changed at 128.1 from 128.0, but market services confidence dropped to 105.5 from 107.2.

In contrast, confidence in retail trade rose to 111.1 from 110.8.
