Report: Federal agents also asked Google to unlock phones, advocacy group says

Alphabet Inc.'sGoogle Inc. unit alsoreceived orders from federal agents to unlock cellphones, The Wall Street Journal reported March 30, citing court orders inseven states.

The American Civil Liberties Union reportedly cited 63instances where U.S. authorities requested a court order under a 1789 lawcalled the All Writs Act to force AppleInc. and Google to access locked phones.

A Google spokesman said the company carefully scrutinizessubpoenas and court orders to make sure they are in accordance with the law,and never received a court order that compromised the company's products' security.
