Peru's president names new prime minister in cabinet shuffle

Salvador del Solar, an actor and former Peruvian culture minister, was sworn in as the country's new prime minister on March 11 as part of a broader cabinet reshuffling, Reuters reported.

President Martin Vizcarra also named replacements for eight other ministers, including for production and agriculture, but decided to keep Finance Minister Carlos Oliva, and Energy and Mines Minister Francisco Ismodes in their positions.

Del Solar, who worked as culture minister for roughly a year under former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, replaces Cesar Villanueva, who stepped down amid a fall in the government's approval rating.

According to Reuters, del Solar is not expected to make any major policy changes.
