Eni, Mainstream partner to develop renewable projects in UK, Africa and Asia

Eni SpA and Mainstream Renewable Power Ltd. have signed a collaboration agreement to develop "large-scale" renewable projects in Africa and Southeast Asia, with an initial focus on the U.K.

The collaboration will support Eni's goal to install 1.6 GW of new solar, wind and storage capacity by 2022 and 5 GW by 2025, according to a Sept. 25 news release. Eni said its pursuit of renewable projects will help the company "pursue the strategic priority of [decarbonization] while creating at the same time long-term value for all its stakeholders."

Eni added that the collaboration with Mainstream Renewable, a developer headquartered in Ireland, will bring value particularly in the area of offshore wind.

Mainstream has developed, consented or brought to the "ready to build" stage 35% of the U.K.'s offshore wind capacity, according to the company. Mainstream is also developing the 800-MW Phu Cuong Soc Trang offshore wind farm in Vietnam and the 1,000-MW offshore wind tender in Gujarat, India.
