Alcoa Corp. said May 28 that it is assessing the effect of a temporary power outage to the timeline and overall process of restarting its Warrick aluminum smelter in Indiana.
The power outage led the company to shut down one of the three potlines that are part of the restart process for safety reasons and to protect the assets. The annual capacity of the affected potline is about 50,000 tonnes.
Alcoa shuttered the Warrick smelter in March 2016 and kicked off measures to resume operations at the facility in 2017. The restart process was expected to be completed in the second quarter, with the three potlines to have an annual capacity of 161,400 tonnes.
