Lincoln Clean Energy to supply wind power to ski operator Vail Resorts

Wind energy developer Lincoln Clean Energy LLC has signed a virtual power purchase agreement to supply ski resort operator Vail Resorts Inc. enough wind-generated power to offset all emissions from Vail's expected fiscal-year 2019 electricity use.

Vail said in a news release Nov. 13 it will purchase 310,000 MWh annually from Lincoln Clean Energy for a 12-year term, allowing for the development of Lincoln's planned 230-MW Plum Creek wind project in Wayne County, Neb. The wind facility is expected to be in operation in 2020.

Vail, which operates 17 resorts in the U.S. and Canada, including Vail and Breckenridge, Colo.; Park City, Utah; Stowe, Vt.; and Whistler, British Columbia, said the virtual PPA it signed with Lincoln is the first of its kind for a Colorado-based company and will make the company the first in its sector to run its North American facilities solely on renewable energy.

The contract announcement was part of a broader sustainability initiative by Vail that also includes waste reduction efforts, with a goal of zero waste produced by 2030.

Lincoln Clean Energy is a subsidiary of Ørsted A/S.
