Economics professor to replace hawk McCafferty on BoE monetary policy committee

U.K. Chancellor Philip Hammond named economics professor Jonathan Haskel as an external member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, effective Sept. 1.

Haskel will replace Ian McCafferty, who is one of the most hawkish members of the nine-member committee. McCafferty's second term is due to end Aug. 31.

Haskel is a professor of economics at Imperial College Business School and a non-executive director of the U.K. Statistics Authority.
