Damian Green, a close ally of British Prime Minister Theresa May, was "asked to quit" as first secretary of state after an investigation found that he had made misleading comments about pornography found on a computer in his office in 2008, BBC News reported.
An official report by the Cabinet Office found that Green breached the government's ministerial code by making "inaccurate and misleading" statements in November, when he suggested during the inquiry that he was unaware pornographic material had been found on a computer in his office, the BBC said.
In a response to Green's forced resignation, May expressed "deep regret" but said his actions "fell short" of the behavior expected of a cabinet minister.
Green is the third cabinet minister to quit in two months, following the November resignations of Michael Fallon as defense secretary and Priti Patel from her international development post. As first secretary of state, Green was effectively the deputy prime minister.
