STR reports mixed YOY results in Asia-Pacific hotels' performance for 2016

STR said hotels in the Asia-Pacific region reported mixed year-over-year results in 2016 based on three key performance metrics, reported in U.S. dollar constant currency.

The revenue per available room rose 0.6% to US$69.34 and occupancy increased 1.6% to 69.0%, while the average daily rate dropped 0.9% to US$100.46. STR also provided year-over-year comparisons based on Australian, Japanese and Thai currencies.

In Australia, RevPAR increased 2.2% to A$139.84, ADR climbed 1.3% to A$184.65 and occupancy rose 0.9% to 75.7%. Japanese hotels' RevPAR climbed 4.0% to ¥12,729.28 and ADR pushed up 5.2% to ¥15,395.59, while occupancy fell 1.2% to 82.7%.

The hotel sector in Thailand recorded a 3.7% increase in RevPAR amounting to 2,729.03 Thai baht. ADR and occupancy increased 1.0% to 3,617.26 baht and 2.6% to 75.4%, respectively.

As of Jan. 23, US$1 was equivalent to A$1.32, ¥113.03 and 35.28 Thai baht.
