Samsung vice chairman faces retrial over bribery charges

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong will be undergoing retrial over bribery allegations after the Supreme Court of South Korea overturned a ruling by a lower court, London's Financial Times reported.

The Supreme Court said the alleged bribery were targeted at winning Samsung's chairmanship from Lee Kun-hee, adding that the appeals court ruling failed to recognize some of Lee's acts of bribery.

Lee had been charged for allegedly bribing former South Korean President Park Geun-hye, according to the report.

After being detained for a year, Lee was released in February 2018 when the appeals court suspended the executive's five-year jail sentence over corruption charges.

Lee may face imprisonment again following the Supreme Court's ruling, according to the report.
