Production halted at Bushveld's Vametco mine by unprotected strike

Bushveld Minerals Ltd. reported that an unprotected industrial action at its Vametco vanadium mine in South Africa has temporarily stopped production since the evening of Sept. 5.

The company said Sept. 7 that the industrial action is related to legacy issues and compensation structures prior to Bushveld's acquisition of Vametco.

Senior management at Bushveld met with union representatives, who agreed to urge all workers to resume work immediately based on both parties committing to negotiate and agree on an employee share-ownership plan next week.

In March, the company said it will work on expanding vanadium reserves and resources at its Vametco mine and Brits project to increase production to more than 5,000 tonnes per year.
