European Commission proposes 3% tax on tech companies' turnover

The European Commission unveiled March 21 a proposal to tax tech companies at a tax rate of 3% on their turnover.

The commission said the levy, which will hit U.S. tech giants such as Google Inc., Facebook Inc. and Apple Inc., is designed to ensure that digital businesses are taxed fairly and in a "growth-friendly" way.
