Kroger launches plant-based meat brand

Kroger Co. on Jan. 8 introduced a plant-based meat range called Emerge, under its vegan label Simple Truth.

The Simple Truth Emerge line includes fresh burger patties and grinds. The grocer said the products have the same taste and texture as regular beef and are free of genetically modified organisms, dairy, gluten and soy.

Each serving of the plant-based patties and grinds contains 20 grams of pea-based protein, Kroger said.

The company launched its Simple Truth vegan brand in September 2019 to introduce plant-based alternatives for cookie dough, pasta sauces, sausages, deli slices, cheeses and dips.
