Whole Foods supplier recalls salads, wraps over E. coli risk

Whole Foods Market Inc. supplier Urban Remedy Inc. issued a voluntary recall of 76 salads and wraps that contain spinach possibly contaminated with E. coli, according to a Sept. 13 recall notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

"We're taking preventative action to keep our customers safe, although no illness has been reported to date," Paul Coletta, CEO of California-based Urban Remedy, said in a statement.

The recall covers Urban Remedy's Black Rice Umeboshi Bowl, The Benedict Brunch Bowl, Samosa Cauli Wrap and Green Tea Leaf Salad, all of which have use-by dates of Sept. 15. The products were sold in Urban Remedy's retail stores, at Whole Foods stores, online and at other California retailers.

The recall was issued after spinach from a supplier tested positive for a small amount of E. coli bacteria. Following the discovery, Urban Remedy said it will no longer buy spinach from the supplier.

"If you purchased any of these products, please don't eat them — throw them out, or return them to the store for a full refund," Coletta said.
