Telefónica SA created an autonomous unit for its Latin American operations, which will be managed by a dedicated executive team.
The new unit will oversee the telecom provider's businesses in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, according to a statement.
Telefónica tapped Alfonso Gómez to become CEO of Telefónica Latin America. He will report to Group Director of Finance and Control Laura Abasolo, who was recently named president of Telefónica Hispam.
Telefónica Latin America's management will also include Elisa Caballero, chief consumer officer, Hispam; Juan Vicente Martín Fontelles, chief business officer, Hispam; Andrea Folgueiras, chief technology and information officer, Hispam; Ana Ramírez, in-charge of IT, Hispam; Elena Maestre, chief financial and strategy officer, Hispam; Diego Colchero, general counsel, Hispam; José Juan Haro, chief wholesale and public affairs officer; Javier Gutiérrez-Bolívar, in-charge of corporate development, Hispam; and Pilar Girón, chief people officer, Hispam.
The organizational structure is subject to approval by the Telefónica board of directors.
Telefónica recently unveiled a five-point action plan aimed at prioritizing markets and generating over €2 billion in additional revenue in 2022. The new measures include the operational spinoff of Hispanoamerica and the creation of a tech-focused unit named Telefónica Tech.
