Apple Inc. won the dismissal of a patent lawsuit filed by Qualcomm Inc. in Germany, Reuters reported Jan. 15.
The regional court in the city of Mannheim said the Qualcomm patent in question was not violated by the installation of its chips in Apple’s smartphones.
Don Rosenberg, Qualcomm's executive vice president and general counsel, said the company disagrees with the decision and will appeal.
In December 2018, the District Court of Munich in a separate case granted Qualcomm's request for a permanent injunction to stop Apple from selling or importing older iPhones to Germany that allegedly infringed a Qualcomm patent that helps extend battery life.
The Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court in China also recently found that Apple had infringed on two Qualcomm patents related to adjusting the size and appearance of photographs and managing apps using a touch-screen device.
