Digital Realty signs renewable energy deals for NoVa data centers, Ore. project

Digital Realty Trust Inc. signed a long-term power purchase agreement with ENGIE North America Inc. and a green tariff agreement with Portland General Electric Co. in a move that will add 227,000 MWh of new clean energy to the regional electric grids where the data center real estate investment trust operates in Virginia and Oregon.

ENGIE will provide 107,000 MWh annually to Digital Realty's data centers in northern Virginia from a new 50-MW solar project expected to begin operations in late 2020. Once that project comes online, the REIT said it will have 338 MW under contract from wind and solar resources.

Portland General Electric will supply about 120,000 MWh annually to the REIT's data center development project in Hillsboro, Ore., under a new tariff program for large energy consumers contracting for new solar or wind resources.
