Japan's seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index slipped to 44.3 in February from a reading of 44.7 in January, data from the Cabinet Office showed.
Three of the four subcategories measuring consumer perception worsened in the month.
Overall livelihood was 42.2, down 0.4 point; employment was 48.7, down 1.0 point; while willingness to buy durable goods was 43.2, down 0.5 point.
Only the income growth subcategory improved, up 0.3 point to 43.2 from January.
Meanwhile, 81.3% of respondents expect prices to rise in the year ahead, down 1.1 percentage points month over month.
The percentage of respondents who expect prices to stay the same edged up to 11.8%, while the percentage of those who anticipate prices to decline inched up to 4.0%.
