Rio Tinto unit Kennecott Utah Copper reaches 5-year wage deal with 4 unions

Rio Tinto unit Kennecott Utah Copper Corp. reached a wage deal with the four unions that have been engaged in collective negotiations since late February, the company said April 4.

The company was informed by the union leadership on April 3 that their members have ratified the proposed wage deal.

The five-year agreement, which ensures continued quality healthcare and retirement benefits, as well as competitive wage increases every year, will take effect immediately.

The unions — United Steelworkers, International Union of Operating Engineers, International Association of Machinists and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers — represent 1,200 of the 1,600 employees at Rio Tinto Kennecott.
