US real estate ETFs log $203M of net outflows in May

U.S. real estate exchange-traded funds saw $203 million of net outflows in May, bringing total assets under management held in real estate ETFs to approximately $51.51 billion as of May 31.

BlackRock Inc.'s iShares U.S. Real Estate ETF saw $497.5 million of net outflows in May, the largest among the group, while Vanguard Group Inc.'s Vanguard REIT ETF had the largest net inflows for the month, at $182.4 million.

IShares Residential Real Estate Capped ETF registered the highest total return among U.S. real estate ETFs with at least $100 million in assets under management during the month, at 1.43%, beating the S&P 500's 1.41% total return and the SNL U.S. REIT Equity Index's -0.10% return.

PowerShares KBW Premium Yield Equity REIT Portfolio had the highest one-year total return at 17.64%.
