OTT service FOX+ debuts in Hungary; Gazprom-Media to launch VOD platform

TOP NEWS

* 21st Century Fox Inc.'s Fox Networks Group launched on-demand streaming platform FOX+ in Hungary via Magyar Telekom, Telecompaper reported Feb. 1, citing 24.hu. The platform will be accessible to subscribers of the Magyar Telekom MoziKlub service.

* Russia's JSC Gazprom-Media Holding is eyeing the rollout of its own VOD platform in the spring, Broadband TV News reported Jan. 24, citing RBC and AKTR. The media company's subsidiary GPM Entertaining TV is reportedly preparing the new service.

Content deals

* O2 Czech Republic as and its unit O2 Slovakia sro acquired exclusive rights to broadcast UEFA Champions League games in their respective countries of presence, Advanced Television reported Jan. 25. Live coverage of the matches will be aired on the O2 TV Fotbal and O2 TV Free channels beginning August until 2021. Subscribers will also be able to watch the games on streaming service O2 TV Sport via the O2 TV app.

* The Czech Republic's Nova Group acquired rights to broadcast the UEFA Europa League games until 2021, Broadband TV News reported Jan. 17. The broadcaster will air the matches on its thematic channels Nova Sport 1 and Nova Sports 2, as well as on its video portal Voyo.

Service launches

* Yandex NV began offering free access to films and serials via the main site of its online portal, Telecompaper reported Jan. 16, citing Vedomosti. The company plans to eventually launch a paid online video service.

* Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar teamed up with OTT provider Megogo.net to launch the Kyivstar Go TV app, Telecompaper reported Jan. 12. The app enables access to more than 170 TV channels and a VOD catalog of more than 7,000 films and serials on mobile devices.

* Channel One Russia JSC has sent letters to tech companies such as Apple Inc. and Alphabet Inc.'s Google Inc., as well as smart TV makers Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and LG Electronics Inc., to remove applications that provide an illegal broadcast of its channel, Broadband TV News reported Jan. 31, citing Kommersant. The channel is also demanding OTT services to only distribute Channel One on legal platforms.

* OTT solutions provider Viaccess-Orca Ltd. said Jan. 10 that its technology dubbed as the Adaptive Sentinel Conditional Access System is being used in Orange Moldova SA's newly launched convergent TV offering. Viaccess-Orca and Orange Moldova are both units of Orange SA.
